After criticism of the involvement of Colombian veterans in the Sudanese civil war, Colombia ratified the 1989 UN International Convention against the Recruitment, Use, Financing and Training of Mercenaries in March 2026.

The Australian National Electricity Market is an electrical grid that connects all Eastern Australian states (ACT, QLD, NSW, SA, TAS, VIC) and supplies 80% of Australia's electricity. It currently utilises a first ready, first served model where power generation projects that are technically verified as approaching completion are prioritised for grid connection. Auction-based models operate by prospective projects bidding for the tradeable right to connect their power generation at a set date and location.

NIL collectives are groups funded by wealthy alumni and donors, separate from the university, that pay college athletes for "Name, Image, and Likeness" (NIL) endorsement deals. These deals are typically negotiated before an athlete commits to joining a college. Before 2021, any payment to college athletes was banned. Once NIL deals were legalised in 2021, collectives quickly became the dominant payment channel, handling the majority of all NIL money. In 2025, a legal settlement allowed universities to pay athletes directly through a capped revenue-sharing model. Collectives remain significant even after this reform, often operating alongside or in addition to direct university payments.

A Russian research team has identified compounds from a microorganism in ancient Arctic permafrost that show real promise against several currently untreatable cancers in early lab tests. Isolating and extracting a usable quantity requires melting the surrounding permafrost, which also holds an unknown range of other ancient dormant microorganisms that have been frozen for tens of thousands of years. The melt cannot be selectively targeted so extracting the organism releases everything else in that ice as well.

The Qatar-Turkey Pipeline is a proposed natural gas pipeline project that would transport gas from Qatar's North Field - one of the world's largest natural gas reserves - through Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Syria to Turkey, eventually connecting to European energy networks.

Indonesian anti-corruption laws currently only requires prosecutors to prove that the accused “unlawfully enriches themselves or another person or a corporation in a way that damages the state finances or economy”. Nadiem Makarim, a co-founder of Gojek and Indonesia's former Education Minister, was recently given a ten year jail sentence for an estimated $125 million USD in state losses. Indonesia's anti-corruption courts have a conviction rate of ~95%.
